Maybe your child goes from zero to sixty over something that seems small. They're quick to anger, struggle when things don't go their way, or become so overwhelmed that nothing you say seems to help. Maybe they're having a hard time navigating friendships, managing frustration, or recovering from difficult moments.
Or perhaps your child has experienced something frightening or painful, such as bullying, a fire, or another traumatic event, and you've noticed changes in their behavior, emotions, or sense of safety. You can see that something is going on, but figuring out what your child needs isn't always easy.
For young adults, struggles may look different. Navigating college, relationships, independence, shifting identities, or major life transitions can bring up anxiety, uncertainty, and old wounds. Past traumatic experiences may continue to shape how you see yourself, connect with others, and respond to stress.
Nikki Leopold (they/them) has experience supporting children struggling with emotional and behavioral dysregulation, anger, trauma responses, and social and relational challenges. They also work with young adults navigating trauma, life transitions, and the often complicated process of figuring out who they are and what they need.
Nikki has a strong understanding of and commitment to the play therapy process. They recognize that children communicate and process experiences through play in ways that go far beyond words. Rather than focusing on changing behaviors, Nikki is interested in understanding what's happening underneath them. They use play therapy to help children explore difficult emotions, process experiences, and develop a greater sense of safety, confidence, and emotional capacity.
Nikki brings warmth, curiosity, creativity, humor and patience to their work, recognizing that meaningful change takes time and trust. They value partnering with parents to help them better understand their child's emotional world and respond with greater confidence and connection.
Whether your child is struggling with big emotions and difficult behaviors, or you're a young adult trying to navigate trauma and the uncertainties of adulthood, Nikki offers a space to feel understood, explore what's happening, and move toward meaningful change.
