Hello! My name is Rachel and I am a dance/movement therapist and counselor. I specialize in working with children who have experienced adverse childhood experiences and trauma through a creative arts therapy, trauma-informed lens. In doing so, I prioritize the therapeutic relationship, creative expression, play, and fostering the mind-body connection.
I have a passion for working with individuals who may not easily connect with traditional talk therapy and are looking for a different approach to explore past experiences, relational dynamics and current life difficulties. I believe in the power of movement, mindfulness, and creativity as an avenue for emotional expression and exploration. The body holds powerful information and can be an important tool when working through difficulties in therapy. The connection between the mind and the body is commonly ruptured having experienced traumatic events. I will work with you to find that re-connection and empower the communication lines between the mind and the body.
Dance/movement therapy is a form of psychotherapy that highlights the body and movement as an avenue for expression. This can look many different ways including more traditional dance and movement to find rhythm, coordination, body organization, and creative expression. It can also look like cultivating a mindfulness practice including breath work and meditation to ease anxiety and stress. It can be used as a relational tool, using movement games to practice pro-social skills and work through relational dynamics in a supportive environment. Within our work together we will explore how Dance/movement therapy can assist in your therapeutic goals.
When working with children, I fully believe in the importance of working with the family as a whole. I will highly encourage family therapy sessions in addition to individual therapy with the client to incorporate collaboration throughout the therapeutic process.
My goal is to create a safe holding environment for you or your child to fully express and move through change. Starting can be the hardest part, but we will work together to create your unique therapeutic experience to access and explore your goals.
