Meet Katrina Carroll-Haskins

MA, ATR-BC, Ph.D in Creative Arts Therapies, (she/her)

Specialties: queer identity development (especially bisexual identity), adult survivors of childhood trauma and neglect, depression, anxiety, interpersonal relationship issues/attachment

I support adults, children, and adolescents to process trauma, relationship conflicts, and challenging life events so they can move forward with self-acceptance, empowerment, and the ability connect with others in safe and fulfilling relationships.

In my work with trauma survivors from a range of diverse cultural backgrounds, I observed firsthand the impacts of adverse experiences in early childhood to present day relationships with self and others. I have developed and facilitated art therapy/psychotherapy programs to support clients to deepen self-awareness and self-compassion, and to foster enriching relationships with others.

As a researcher, I have examined the benefits of creative expression for mental and physical well-being, stress reduction, mindfulness, and resilience. When words are not enough, creative self-expression through art therapy can help to process and release inner pain (even if you have no artistic experience!).

My therapeutic framework is experiential, collaborative, trauma-informed, and strengths-based. I practice from a systemic lens, exploring how your interpersonal relationships and the outside world impact your mental health and well-being. In our work together, I will serve as a guide to processing your emotions and experiences through a combination of talking and creative self-expression. I bring my authenticity, warmth, humor and a spirit of non-judgement and curiosity to the therapeutic relationship. I welcome individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, with a commitment to consistently engage in my own work (self-reflection, continuing education, supervision, and consultation) to be culturally safe and affirming.

I know how hard it can be to reach out for help, whether you have never been to therapy before or have had challenging experiences in therapy in the past. I know what it is like to be on the “other side of the couch” as a client. As a therapist I am committed to attending ongoing therapy, alongside continued education and training, throughout my career to best serve clients in their healing journeys.
